Bill Gates on AI: “People are no longer needed for most things”

Arch-technocrat Bill Gates is promoting his just-released autobiography Source Code: My Beginnings and, of course, he has the makings of an appearance on Jimmy Fallon’s show. Fallon was submissive as ever and was genuinely shocked to hear that humans “are not needed for most things.” Will artificial intelligence write all of the jokes of future comedians and then create a realistic avatar to perform them on TV? That’s likely what Fallon will be chasing in the coming days. ⁃ Patrick Wood. Editor.

Bill Gates says that artificial intelligence will soon make humans unnecessary for “most things,” but they will still be needed for entertainment purposes.

Gates made the remarks during an appearance on “The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon” to promote his new book.

Fallon asked Gates if AI will take over and what the pros and cons will be.

Gates said that “intelligence is rare,” but that AI will start replacing good teachers and doctors in the next decade.

The Microsoft founder also said that many types of jobs will disappear and people will eventually work only two or three days a week.

“It’s a little scary, it’s completely new territory,” he added.

“Do we still need humans?” Fallon asked.

“Not for most things,” Gates replied, and Fallon put his hands over his mouth in shock.

When Fallon said that humans would still be needed for entertainment purposes, like hosting talk shows, Gates agreed.

“Well, we’ll decide. You know, like in baseball. We don’t want to watch computers play baseball. So there will be some things that we reserve for ourselves. But in terms of manufacturing and transporting things and growing food, those problems will basically be solved over time.”

Laying off billions of potential people who would then be completely dependent on the government is apparently a “solved problem.”

In another appearance on “The View,” Gates predicted that another COVID-style pandemic “could be much more severe.”

Interestingly, although Gates kept his arms crossed the entire time, he rubbed his hands together and said, “This one killed millions, it was terrible — but we have a vaccine.”
