Plastic pollution bothers many countries and mainly affects island states, which are flooded with plastic waste. In 3 months, environmentalists have built a museum to highlight how much plastic waste is produced. The aim is to make people aware of the big problem and to try to reduce their own plastics production. 10,000 pieces of plastic waste were used for the construction, which included, for example, plastic bottles, plastic bags, polystyrene, straws, plastic cups and other types of waste.
Waste was collected from rivers and beaches in Java. Indonesia produces 6.8 million tonnes of plastic waste each year and only 10 percent can be recycled. Plastic is damaging the fishing industry on which Indonesia depends. The government wants to reduce the production of plastic waste by 70% by 2025 and stop it by 2040.
