Most people think of torture as causing physical pain and damage to the body. However, torture can take many forms. There are also methods that do not leave any physical traces on the body and yet they can break a person. It can be denying sleep, threatening, but also torturing loud music. Can music really be used to torture prisoners? Yes, these practices are known, for example, from Guantanamo Prison or Abu Ghraib. Prisoners are being tortured here in horrific ways, and one of them is loud music, which drives them crazy. Aggressive and loud sounds can cause severe psychological suffering.
