There are a large number of deserts around the world, which are growing in size. Green areas are declining and places where no plants are growing are increasing. An autonomous robot called A’seedbot could help solve this problem.
What can A’seedbot do?
His job is to travel the desert. He will wander the empty terrain looking for fertile areas. When he manages to find a fertile place, he announces his location. He then starts planting seeds based on data from the sensors and his navigation system. This robot farmer is the graduation project of Mazyar Etehadi from the Dubai Institute of Design and Innovation. A’seedbot was unveiled at the Global Grad Show.
An invention that can support desert agriculture
“I just wish that there were more plants, more greenery out there,” Etehadi told CNN. The persistent issue of desertification instigated him to seek solutions that were easier and more effective with reduced human intervention.
The impetus for the robot’s development was the persistent problem of desertification. Thanks to the use of robots, it would be easier to fight the expanding deserts. This robot is about 20 centimeters long and has solar panels on its body. The robot charges during the day and works at night. It can work autonomously within a radius of 5 kilometers. His feet are printed in a 3D printer and allow him to crawl on the sand and look for soil that has optimal humidity. When he encounters suitable soil, he plants a seed in it. This robot could be used by government entities, the agricultural sectors, as well as farmers and individuals who want to help build green spaces.
“I think it was an easy solution to come up with, but no one ha (d) actually came up with it,” Etehadi said.
This is not the only project to help plant the plants. There is a growing effort around the world to build green spaces that will help create a healthier environment for humans and animals.
