The mental state of the planet’s population has been deteriorating in recent years. Sapien Labs Announces 2nd Annual Mental State of the World Report. Among other things, the pandemic is to blame.

The World Mental State Report

According to the report, the mental condition of the world’s population deteriorated in 2021, as it did in 2020. However, this time, the decline in mental health was not as dramatic as last year. During 2020, people’s average mental health and well-being fell by about 8 percent, mainly due to the covid-19 pandemic.

The decline continued during 2021, slowing to 3 percent. Again, the main reason for this is the pandemic, in which lockdowns and other measures affect the human psyche. According to the report, there is a close link between mental conditions and the number of death cases at the same time.

Mental Health and Economics

According to many respondents, the failed reaction of most governments, unclear information, lack of support for individuals, and a focus on saving the economy instead of saving people have contributed to this. The report also found that people’s mental health is declining with the country’s growing economic strength.

The English-speaking countries, which the report describes as the “Core Anglosphere,” were the worst, i.e., the USA, Canada, Great Britain, Ireland, Australia, New Zealand, and, together with them, the Republic of South Africa. This decline in mental health seems to be affecting young people in particular. Only 7 percent of people over the age of 65 had problems suffocating with health or well-being, while it was noticeably more young, about 44 percent.

The research procedure limits the study’s conclusions and the informative value. The researchers used an anonymous online Mental Health Quotient (MHQ) questionnaire, which about 223,000 people from 34 countries completed. The European continent was represented by respondents from Spain, Switzerland, Belgium, France, Ireland, and the United Kingdom.
