Why is reading a book better than reading from a screen? Several studies have found that reading books trains our brain and promotes empathy, and our eyes do not react as irritated as watching a screen.

When reading a book, we have to do more operations, manipulate the book, turn the page, hold it, take care of it so it doesn’t get damaged. All of this stimulates our brain. Reading stimulates imagination and creativity and prepares you for a better sleep.

Emotional Intelligence

Research has shown that reading helps with understanding and emotional intelligence as well as fluid intelligence, which means the ability to think and have flexible thinking.

Author of the study Robert. S. Wilson of the Rush University Medical Center in Chicago said in a statement:

“Our study suggests that exercising your brain by taking part in activities such as these across a person’s lifetime, from childhood through old age, is important for brain health in old age. Based on this, we shouldn’t underestimate the effects of everyday activities, such as reading and writing, on our children, ourselves and our parents or grandparents.”

In two experiments, researchers from the Netherlands have found that reading can help make a person more empathetic:

“In two experimental studies, we were able to show that self-reported empathic skills significantly changed over the course of one week for readers of a fictional story by fiction authors Arthur Conan Doyle and José Saramago. More specifically, highly transported readers of Doyle became more empathic, while non-transported readers of both Doyle and Saramago became less empathic.”

Healthy Eyes

Electronic books can cause eye fatigue, which can lead to blurred vision, redness, dryness and irritation. Half of the 429 college students who were included in the survey reported the unpleasant symptoms, according to The New Republic magazine. Smartphone distributes you with audible and visual alerts.

Reading a book will make you fall asleep better than watching a screen that emits blue light. Recent studies say that the blue light is proven not to let your brain rest at night.

One more advantage stands for mention: you don’t have to worry about the battery running out while reading a book.
